I begin each school year with a watershed geology unit where student's study the life and legacy of John Wesley Powell as a model scientist to emulate.

  1. First they watch a PBS video about Powell's life.
  2. Then they read excerpts from his Grand Canyon expedition journal.
  3. Then they learn a river song written by my friend, Chris Kennedy.
  4. Finally on the Friday of the first week of school, I take them rafting down the Colorado River through Glenwood Canyon so that they may better relate to what it was like for Powell to conduct scientific research while running a river.

Wow, I came home so energized by our afternoon training that I wrote a new song. This has been a busy week with parent teacher conferences, our Tuesday after school meeting and this Friday afternoon's training. I was surprised to not feel more exhausted when I got home. I appreciate the opportunities that this E2T2 training will provide for my students to use technology to transform their learning!
